Oxford County officials announced enhanced efforts to protect local drinking water Monday through the installation of “source water protection” signs across the region.

The signs are intended to raise awareness about the importance of municipal water sources while reminding residents and visitors that activities in these areas can directly impact the quality of the water.

“Source water protection is the first line of defence in maintaining a safe and sustainable drinking water supply,” said Matthew Jauernig, co-ordinator of Oxford’s Source Protection Program. “These signs not only mark areas where our water sources are most vulnerable, but they also serve as a reminder that every action we take on the land can have an impact below ground.
