PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee is planning to pledge his support to state residents who will be affected by the looming pause of SNAP funds due to the government shutdown.

SNAP benefits will not be paid out on November 1 due to the shutdown, with 140,000 Ocean State residents to be affected by the freezing of $29 million in federal funds, according to McKee.

The SNAP cut off equals approximately $200 per Rhode Island household for November.

McKee will speak Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. to “announce new actions to support Rhode Islanders” in the face of the shut off of funds.

Rhode Island communities and organizations are also bracing for the food benefits void, such as Pawtucket’s city soup kitchen.
