Both teams emptied their bullpens throughout the 18-inning war of attrition Monday — and at one point Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was desperate enough to consider using a position player on the mound, according to Fox’s on air reporter Tom Verducci — before Yoshinobu Yamamoto began warming up on one-day’s rest from his complete game Saturday.

Both managers will need long outings from their starters after most of their relievers were taxed with more work than they’re used to. Here’s how the bullpens did Monday ahead of a critical Game 4 in Los Angeles Tuesday:
