Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the country’s military to launch “powerful and immediate strikes” across Gaza, intensifying tensions just as efforts toward a US-brokered ceasefire appeared to be underway.

Netanyahu’s announcement came hours after Israel accused Hamas of firing at its troops stationed in southern Gaza, violating the fragile truce framework discussed in recent talks. “I have ordered the IDF to act with full force,” Netanyahu said, emphasizing that Israel would respond decisively to any provocation.
