Nearly 90 waterspouts were sighted on Great Lakes. Where they were

Nearly 90 waterspouts spun across the Great Lakes this past week, according to a nonprofit group that tracks the weather phenomenon.

At least 89 confirmed fair weather waterspouts and funnels were reported to the International Centre for Waterspout Research — and more may have spawned beyond view — from Oct. 21-26, the group said.

Waterspouts tend to form when the air is cool and moist, and the water is near its warmest. The phenomena tend to form on the Great Lakes from August to October, the National Weather Service said.
