Jeromy Farkas is officially Calgary’s mayor following a recount of the Oct. 20 votes.
Results released by Elections Calgary Tuesday have Farkas winning by 616 votes over Sonya Sharp. Previously, the margin was 581 votes.
Sharp requested the recount, saying it was about ensuring transparency and confidence in the democratic process.
Calgary’s returning officer approved the process to go ahead after being satisfied that the margin of victory was within the 0.5 per cent threshold.
The count started Monday morning, one week after Calgarians went to the polls.
The total number of ballots cast in the vote was 349,815, for a voter turnout of 39.04 per cent.
