SALT LAKE CITY — A number of local businesses are offering to host food drives to collect donations for those who have been impacted by the government shutdown.

Helen Wade, owner of The Stockist in Salt Lake City’s 9th and 9th neighborhood, heard the Utah Food Bank’s desperate plea for donations to help everyone who’s not getting a paycheck or missing out on their federal food assistance because of the shutdown.

She decided to find a way to help.

“We see all these news headlines, and it’s like, what can we do? We don’t have a lot of money to give, but we have our shops that could, like, host the food drives. We have a place that people can come and donate.”

So she and some of the other local businesses in the area of 9th and 9th agreed to host food donation bins in their shops.
