ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill on Monday in preparation for a potential amendment to the state constitution regarding the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex in Essex County. But S8047/A3628 only actually takes effect if New York State voters approve Proposal 1 on November 4.

The legislation readies the state to acquire at least 2,500 acres of new public land for the Adirondack Park Forest Preserve. It lets the Olympic Sports Complex expand onto protected land while increasing "forever wild" forest preserve acreage overall.
