INWOOD - With a federal government shutdown expected to halt Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments in the coming weeks, food insecurity is spiking across the country, and local nonprofits are scrambling to meet demand.
Community Markets Inc. (CMI), a Shepherdstown–based nonprofit that connects food from local farms with families in need, says it has already seen a surge in people seeking food assistance ahead of the anticipated disruption to federal benefits.
