A recount by Elections Calgary has officially confirmed Jeromy Farkas as the city's next mayor. The recount was initiated after Sonya Sharp, the runner-up in the recent election, requested it under the Local Authorities Election Act. The recount began on Monday at 9:30 a.m. and concluded with updated results released on Tuesday. According to the final tally, Farkas received 91,112 votes, while Sharp garnered 90,496 votes, resulting in a margin of 616 votes. Prior to the recount, the initial results indicated that Farkas had 91,071 votes compared to Sharp's 90,490. Both candidates gained votes during the recount process. Sharp had expressed her concerns about the narrow margin of victory and the difficulties faced by election workers, which included long lines and new procedures. She noted that the hand-counting of ballots extended into the early hours of the morning. "This request is by no means a criticism of their hard work. Instead, it suggests that mistakes can occur during stressful situations," Sharp stated at the time of her recount request. All votes cast for mayor across Calgary were recounted, as confirmed by the city. With the recount now complete, Jeromy Farkas is scheduled to be sworn in as Calgary's new mayor on Wednesday. Elections Calgary has not yet provided further comments from either Farkas or Sharp regarding the recount results.
