Playwright David Adjmi’s talent impressed stage director Daniel Aukin as soon as they met, and Aukin felt he would be lucky if the pair could produce a show together.
“We never worked together, and then in 2014 I was working in Los Angeles and we went out to coffee,” Aukin recalled. “He said, ‘I have this idea for a play.’ He described it very simply and said, ‘I haven't written it yet, but if I write it, will you direct it?’ And it was very easy to say yes.”
Eleven years after that coffee meeting, Adjmi and Aukin’s collaboration is set to make its San Francisco premiere Tuesday at the Curran Theatre.
