Former Wallabies captain Liam Wright has parted ways with the Queensland Reds after a frustrating 2025 Super Rugby Pacific campaign.

Wright, who turns 28 next month, was restricted to just 58 minutes of action this season after reinjuring the shoulder he hurt playing for the Wallabies in July last year against Wales.

It was in that match against the Welsh that Wright captained the Wallabies for the first and only time.

Negotiations took place between Wright and the Reds about a new deal, but terms weren’t able to be reached, leading to what has been described as an “amicable” split.

“It will be hard not coming into Ballymore nearly every day,” said the popular back-rower, who debuted for the Reds in 2018 and was the team’s co-captain.
