NEW YORK, N.Y. – President Donald Trump is in the spotlight once again as his legal team seeks to overturn his criminal conviction in New York.

Trump's lawyers have filed a request with the state's midlevel appeals court, arguing that the conviction should be dismissed. They claim the case should never have been initiated and that the verdict ought to be reversed.

The appeal was filed late on Monday, and details are now emerging. Trump's legal team is also citing the Supreme Court's July 2024 decision on presidential immunity as a basis for their appeal.

Last year, Trump was found guilty of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Trump said he did nothing wrong.
