"NCIS" legend Mark Harmon is bringing his OG Leroy Jethro Gibbs character to the prequel series "NCIS: Origins," and he's not coming alone.
Harmon, 74, will make a rare guest appearance on "Origins" as Gibbs, the character he played for 18 "NCIS" seasons, during the first crossover event between the two CBS dramas on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11 (starting 8 ET/PT)
Gibbs retired solo to Alaska when Harmon left "NCIS" in 2021. However, with Gibbs' story continuing in "Origins" present-day moments, the senior character might have found new love for lonely Alaskan nights.
"Four years ago, Gibbs disappeared to Alaska to live a life of solitude," executive producers David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal said in a statement. "We know how much fans have missed seeing Mark and have wondered what Gibbs is up to today. We don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say Gibbs is no longer alone."
Does Harmon's Gibbs have a new love? Who is it?
No other info or hints about a new love interest have been provided. Clearly, speculation will run wild in the "NCIS"-verse about the four-time-married Gibbs character.
Harmon, an executive producer of both shows, narrates "Origins." But the actor only appeared briefly onscreen as Gibbs in the "Origins" 2024 pilot, sitting alone by the fire to tell the untold story of his true love.
In the "Origins" Season 1 finale, Gibbs reflected on NIS Special Agent Cecilia "Lala" Dominguez (Mariel Molino), who had seriously crashed her Jeep. "I loved her all along. I still do," Gibbs said in the cliffhanger season ending.
Dominguez survived the crash after all, thriving in Season 2. So Vegas bookies would give good odds that an older Lala will be by Gibbs' side in Alaska. But who knows?
Why is Harmon coming to 'Origins'?
Harmon praised the "Origins" creative team, saying in the statement that they "continue to push boundaries and dive deeper into the characters’ backstories. They came to me with an idea for Gibbs that I liked, and it seemed like a good time to check in with him. I hope fans enjoy it."
In the Nov. 11 crossover event, younger Leroy Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and team investigate the small-town death of a naval officer in the ‘90s on "Origins" (8 ET/PT), and the case gets unexpectedly reopened in the present day on "NCIS" (9 ET/PT).
