The federal and Manitoba governments are joining forces on tougher bail and sentencing laws, saying it’s time the justice system gave police, firefighters, and paramedics the protection they deserve.
At Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Station 9 on Tuesday, federal Justice Minister Sean Fraser and Manitoba Justice Minister Matt Wiebe outlined the new , a bill that would overhaul how Canada handles violent and repeat offenders.

The proposed legislation includes more than 80 changes to the Criminal Code. It would make bail harder to get for repeat violent offenders and add a new rule that increases penalties for anyone convicted of assaulting or threatening a first responder while they’re on duty.
