“We’ve come this afternoon to celebrate the strength and the skill and service of everyone in this,” Trump said to the assembled troops.

With Takaichi by his side, Trump thanked Japan for its partnership as a U.S. ally.

“Born out of the ashes of a terrible war, a bond has grown over eight decades into the beautiful friendship that we have. It’s the foundation of peace and security in the Pacific,” Trump said.

In Tokyo, Trump thanked Japanese business leaders for continuing to invest in the American economy.
