If the government is still shut down on Nov. 1, nearly 400,000 Connecticut residents will not receive their SNAP benefits for the month. It’s causing concern for food pantries like the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic, which is working hard to keep up with community needs in preparation.
“We’re totally out of refrigerated milk, we’re almost out of eggs, that’s the last of what we’ve got,” said Anya Walikonis of the Covenant Soup Kitchen.
