A coalition of attorneys general and governors is suing the Trump administration over a potential lapse in SNAP benefits.

The lawsuit alleges the USDA has contingency funds to continue payments despite the government shutdown.

Approximately 42 million Americans, including over 65,000 Vermonters, could lose their benefits on Nov. 1.

Days before Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are set to run out due to the ongoing government shutdown , Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark, a coalition of 22 other attorneys general and three governors are suing the Trump administration over the funding lapse.

The lawsuit , filed Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Boston, called a looming food aid cutoff "both contrary to law and arbitrary and capricious."
