The provincial government’s response to a teachers’ strike has appeared to sour some Albertans’ opinions of Premier Danielle Smith and her United Conservative Party, a new survey from Leger suggests.

The poll, published Tuesday, indicates that Albertans “have become increasingly pessimistic about the direction of the province,” according to Leger, with 32 per cent of respondents agreeing Alberta is on the right track — a five per cent decline from a similar survey last May.

Meanwhile, 61 per cent of respondents said they feel the province is headed in the wrong direction, which is a 10-point increase from the spring.
