Srinagar : The Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on Tuesday after Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather rejected an adjournment motion brought by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta, seeking discussion on the impact of recent natural calamities.

As soon as proceedings started Tuesday morning Pawan Kumar Gupta, MLA Udhampur West, urged the Chair to suspend business and allow a debate on the recent calamities and other disasters in the region.

The Speaker ruled that the motion had been rejected in accordance with the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Assembly.

He pointed out that the issue was already scheduled for discussion the following day. “You may discuss it throughout the day tomorrow,” the Speaker said.
