KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Local businesses in Knoxville are stepping up to help those who will be affected by a lapse in funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
According to the Trump administration, funding will run out for the program on Friday. The administration has rejected using more than $5 billion in contingency funds to keep SNAP flowing into November.
According to Governor Bill Lee's Office, more than 690,000 Tennesseans rely on SNAP for nutrition assistance. As Friday approaches, many Knoxville families may not know where their next meal is coming from.
Inskip Grill in Fountain City plans to provide free kids' meals every Tuesday starting November 4.
