SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reported on Tuesday a slight dip in the number of turkeys that hunters harvested this season.
Fall firearm hunters harvested 255 turkeys across the state from Oct. 18 to 26, an IDNR news release said. This is down from the 294 harvested last year.
The fall firearm turkey hunting season was open in 56 of Illinois' 102 counties. Preliminary numbers show that, in our viewing area, two turkeys were harvested in Fulton County and another two were harvested in Knox County.
The numbers were both down from last year, when five were harvested in Fulton County and seven were harvested in Knox County.
The counties where the most turkeys were harvested were in Jefferson and Jo Daviess counties, where 16 turkeys were harvested
