SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Trick-or-ticket.
Thinking of risking the drive after a few drinks on Halloween night?
While that is never a good idea year-round, the California Highway Patrol announced Tuesday that it plans to increase its presence on the roads on a night full of trick-or-treaters and partygoers.
While Maximum Enforcement Periods (MEP) are usually around holidays or other periods where more drivers are expected, the agency will launch an MEP starting 6 p.m. Friday night and ending at 6 a.m. Saturday.
CHP conducted a Halloween MEP last year. During that period, the agency investigated nearly 500 crashes. About 90 of those involved impaired drivers, two fatalities and more than 60 injuries.
Officers arrested nearly 120 people on suspicion of driving under the influence.
