CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was shot five times while standing on a Northwest Side sidewalk on Tuesday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the Humboldt Park neighborhood's 1000-block of North Lawndale Avenue around 2:30 p.m.

A male suspect, whose age was not immediately known, approached a 38-year-old man on the sidewalk and fired shots, striking him in the body, police said.

The suspect ran away southbound.

The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

Chopper 7 was over the scene, where several evidence markers littered the ground.

No one is in custody, and Area Four detectives are investigating.

Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
