A man on trial for fatally striking a Swanton couple outside a Sylvania concert venue last year consumed about 13 standard alcoholic beverages based on his later blood-test results, an alcohol toxicology expert testified Tuesday afternoon.

Alfred Staubus, a retired, emeritus professor of pharmacy from Ohio State University, said his calculation was based on the 0.245 grams per milliliter test result from Donald Christian’s blood four hours after the crash on Centennial Road that killed Donald and Therese Fern, ages 78 and 68. He then accounted for Mr. Christian’s height and weight and made adjustments for the time elapsed and the likelihood that he had a drink or two that his body hadn’t absorbed yet at the time of the crash.
