CATAHOULA PARISH, La. (KALB) - On October 28, the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office announced an inmate died after consuming contraband at the Catahoula Correctional Center.

According to a release by CPSO, on October 6, the sheriff’s office responded to a medical call involving an inmate later identified as Joshua Cole. An inmate reported Cole after being found unresponsive and not breathing after smoking what officials believe was synthetic marijuana.

Upon arrival by prison guards, CPR was started immediately, alongside the use of Narcan and an AED. An Airvac was called, but officials said Cole died before airlift efforts began.
