ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford Police Department extended their window one week for entry-level applicants to apply for the force. Currently the department has 282 officers on staff with a capacity for 302, so about a 20-person gap.

The hope for the police department is to attract more applicants through an upcoming community event, a boxing match between Rockford's police and police department named the Rockford Hero Rumble.

"We're going to have a recruitment booth out there. Stop by and talk to our, our officers that are working," recruitment officer Katy Stalter said. " We thought, why not take advantage of the awesome event happening here in town to extend our application window."
