A new report card on the provincial government of Premier Danielle Smith suggests government faces mounting reputational challenges in the wake of the first-ever provincewide teachers’ strike.

The government’s education approval rating has slipped to just under one-quarter. At 24 per cent, it’s the lowest it’s been in the six polls taken since 2023. In the other polls, it’s hovered around the 30s.

The Leger poll was taken Oct. 10-12, in the week following the start of the Oct. 6 teachers’ strike. The company gave them a margin of error no greater than ±3.0 per cent, 19 times out of 20, for the total Alberta sample.
