PEORIA, Ill. – One of Peoria’s main roads will be getting an overhaul in the next few years.
The state of Illinois has announced $10 million in funding to go towards a complete renovation of Sheridan Road. The project will rebuild Sheridan from Glen to Northmoor Road into a three-lane road. The improvements also include a center tune lane, sidewalks, and a multi-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The announcement was made on Tuesday at Peoria Notre Dame High School, which is just off of Sheridan. Governor J.B. Pritzker was joined by community leaders in making the announcement.
“For too long, that road had been run down and congested and unsafe for drivers and for pedestrians alike,” Pritzker said.
