LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Dozens of second- through fifth-graders from Indian Trail Elementary’s magnet program stepped into the shoes of public officials during a City Hall visit Tuesday — a hands-on civics lesson designed to bring classroom government to life for a second consecutive year.

"If they know how things are connected, they can actually make decisions and also maybe lead with future leaders to help guide those decisions on how it impacts all the citizens of not just Louisville, Kentucky, but maybe one day, the United States of America," said Deepa Ramchandani, the school’s magnet coordinator.

Students at Indian Trail already run their own classroom governments, and Ramchandani said taking those skills to City Hall helps the lessons stick.
