AHMEDABAD: US Customs and Border Protection intercepted 34,146 Indian nationals attempting illegal entry between Oct last year and this Sept, marking a 62% drop from 90,415 detentions during the previous fiscal. This constitutes the sharpest drop over the past four years in the number of Indians caught trying to enter the US illegally. Data released by the agency on Oct 28 shows Indian nationals now account for a significantly smaller share of total border detentions, compared to earlier years. In Sept, the final month of the US fiscal, authorities intercepted 1,147 Indians. In FY22, Indians accounted for 63,927 interceptions. The latest data is 47% lower.
