A man accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at the entrance of the Boone County Courthouse in January pleaded guilty to two felony charges on Tuesday.
Nicholas Walters, 39, pleaded guilty to first-degree arson and resisting arrest. He was initially charged with first-degree assault, first-degree arson, armed criminal action, resisting arrest and drug possession. The state dropped three of those charges in the plea deal.
Walters was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to court documents, surveillance footage showed Walters approaching the Boone County Courthouse carrying a glass jar filled with gasoline and paper. He threw the Molotov cocktail at the courthouse entrance, causing “an eruption of fire” beneath the door, the probable cause statement said.
