PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Over the weekend, veterans Fritz and Shannon Toussaint were surrounded by joy in Jamaica where they attended a wedding that was attended by some 70 people.
"We were so excited about this Jamaica wedding. It was myself, my husband and my girls and my niece. So it's a big a whole lot of family members came to the wedding," Shannon said.
Days later, the veterans were surrounded by fear as the angry ocean moved closer to their resort In Hanover, Jamaica.
Wedding celebrants, including elderly people and young children, were unable to escape the wrath of Hurricane Melissa before international airports were closed.
