GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - For years, 21st Judicial District Attorney Dan Rubinstein and his colleagues have relied on Axon legal software to process hours upon hours of law enforcement body-cam footage.
Rubinstein recalls, "we were getting so much footage that it was really difficult for our attorneys to be able to view them."
Faced with a looming end to their original contract and ongoing county budget problems, his office caught a big break just in time, when the Mesa County commissioners unanimously approved the renewal of a five-year contract on Tuesday morning, to the tune of just over $178,000.
"$178,000 does seem like quite a high price tag," explains Rubinstein, "but would be quite a bit more expensive just in the additional staff to review all of that footage."
