Jeff Bridges reprised his role as Kevin Flynn in Tron: Ares and is sharing his take on movies being perceived as flops after their opening-weekend box-office results.
Tron: Ares opened on October 10 and had an opening weekend at the U.S. box office of $33.5M and a $60.5M global debut. The third film in the franchise was initially expected to open at $40M-$45M domestically and $80M-$90M globally.
Deadline reported that Tron: Ares had a cost of $220M and would have a loss of $132.7M after all ancillaries, if its final global gross stalled at $160M.
However, Bridges believes that a film can grow even after an opening weekend.
