SHORT GAP, W.Va. — One hundred minutes of play and eight rounds of a penalty kick shootout could not settle the issue between Frankfort and Trinity in the Class AA/A Region II Championship game. After 80 minutes of regulation play with three goals for each side, a pair of overtime periods and a nine-round shootout, Frankfort advanced to the state tournament, 7-6 on penalty kicks.
In the ninth round of the shootout, Trinity missed the net on their attempt, leaving the Falcons with a chance to end it. Frankfort goalkeeper Alyn Weaver stepped up to the spot and delivered the winning penalty.
“We practiced [shootouts] a fair amount this past week knowing that it might happen,” said Frankfort head coach Jason Vaughan. “We had a lineup picked out. We played a game where if you missed two, you
