JAMAICA (WSYR-TV) -- A Central New York woman is stuck in Jamaica as a result of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa that made landfall in the area on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Forced to take shelter at a resort, Annmarie Peebles is riding out the storm after she was unable to get a flight home in time.
Peebles said the scariest part of the experience has been being away from her family.
"My kids want me home. I want to be home. I know we're safe, but it's still very very scary. Hearing them cry that they want me home, and my mom, it's tough," she said.
She hopes to be on a flight home Thursday, but that will all depend on what damage the storm leaves behind. • A Sandals Resort in Jamaica before Hurricane Melissa made landfall. Courtesy of Annmarie Peebles. • A Sandals Resort in Jamaica before Hu
