RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) -- Some businesses saw fewer tourists than expected. But overall, western KELOLAND saw visitor numbers similar to previous years.
From Mount Rushmore to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, there are plenty of reasons to visit South Dakota.
And every fall, businesses and organizations in the tourism world meet to discuss the highs and lows of the previous season.
"The season started off really very strong and then some of the businesses softened up quite a bit. Things like hotel occupancy is down just a little bit but our national parks visits are up. So really I think the year went pretty well," Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association President Michelle Thomson said.
