Max Domi found out first-hand what opponents quickly understand about Matthew Knies: He’s a big man.
“He’s a beast,” Domi said of his Maple Leafs teammate.
The five-foot-10, 208-pound Domi and six-foot-three, 232-pound Knies combined for the winning goal in a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday.
It was Domi’s second of the evening, while Knies had two goals and an assist. The Leafs were the better team, but the winning play was a bit of a comedy of errors.
Defenceman Jake McCabe kept it alive by taking the puck to his chest and forwarding it. It looked as if both teams thought the play would be whistled dead, wrongly assuming a hand-pass was involved. That’s when Domi, double-shifted on a line with John Tavares, fed Knies.
