SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Out with the Savannah Civic Center, in with new housing.
The public got an initial look at what could occupy the land that serves as an entryway to the city in the form of a public forum.
"We got a mandate from council that said no hotels, no short-term vacation rentals," Planning and Urban Design Director Bridget Liddy said.
Instead of building roofs for tourists, the city is putting locals first.
"The emphasis was put on housing, affordable and workforce housing, so that's what we're focusing on right now," said Liddy.
The city showed the public three scenarios with different ranges of affordability.
Scenario number three is the most affordable, prioritizing apartments and senior living.
