ANTRIM, N.H. —

As powerful Hurricane Melissa batters Jamaica, some Granite Staters are caught in the middle of it.

While a Nashua woman on vacation in Jamaica is trying to ride out the storm, a New Hampshire farm is supporting several longtime employees who are desperately trying to stay in touch with their families on the island.

"Once that storm hits, we won't be able to be in here at all," said April Davis, of Nashua.

Davis said bed frames are blocking the balcony of her hotel room in Jamaica, while she rides out the hurricane in a windowless room.

"We're in this little room," she said. "These are our emergency bags."
