MADISON (WKOW) – Attorney General Josh Kaul secured a preliminary injunction, blocking the U.S. Department of Education from cutting school mental health grant funding. This order reinstates grants that were discontinued by the Trump administration earlier this year.

In June, AG Kaul and several states filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education. They challenged the cuts to congressionally approved funding for K-12 school mental health programs.

“It is baffling that the Trump administration is unlawfully attempting to withhold funding that supports school-based mental health services,” Kaul said.

The cuts would have affected hundreds of thousands of students nationwide. They would have significantly impacted the implementation of key mental health initiatives.
