WASHINGTON — Ohio’s two Republican U.S. senators, frustrated over the looming cutoff of food assistance for millions of Americans, have joined legislation to ensure Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits continue flowing despite the ongoing government shutdown.

“I think there are about 1.4 million Ohioans who rely on SNAP for their monthly food benefits, and a lot of those are children,” Sen. Jon Husted said in an interview Tuesday following a GOP Senate luncheon. “And so, there’s a strong need to make sure that that’s funded.”
