Brown has some climbing to do if it wants to reach this next version of men’s basketball Ivy Madness.

The Bears were selected sixth in a preseason poll released late last week and rehashed during the virtual media day on Oct. 28. Penn and Columbia trailed at the foot of the expected league standings.

Defending champion Yale was named a unanimous favorite after collecting all 21 first-place votes. Harvard, Cornell, Princeton and Dartmouth followed, with the Big Red and Tigers looking for return trips to the modified conference tournament. Cornell will host the four-team event in upstate New York in March, with an automatic NCAA Tournament bid at stake.

“We expected to compete to win an Ivy championship last year,” Brown coach Mike Martin said. “The tournament was at our place.”
