A political controversy erupted in Assam’s border district of Sribhumi after a Congress leader, Vidhu Bhushan Das, was seen singing Bangladesh’s national anthem during a party meeting at Indira Bhavan on October 27. The incident took place during an executive meeting of the Congress Sevadal.

The BJP strongly criticised the act, with MLA Krishnendu Paul alleging that the Congress “always has sympathy for Bangladesh and Bangladeshis."
