Darshan Singh Sahsi, a 68-year-old Indian-origin businessman, was shot dead in a targeted attack outside his home in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on Monday morning. A video of the incident shows the assailant approaching Sahsi's car on a busy road and opening fire at close range. Sahsi, who was the president of Canam International, a clothing recycling firm, was found with fatal injuries and later died in the hospital despite efforts to save him.
The police have launched a homicide investigation, stating that the attack was deliberate. According to reports, the shooter waited in a parked car until Sahsi entered his vehicle before firing and then fled the scene. Goldy Dhillon, a gangster linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder on social media, alleging that Sahsi had refused to pay extortion money and was involved in drug trafficking. However, police have not confirmed these claims.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang was recently designated a terrorist entity by the Canadian government, which has increased law enforcement's powers to combat gang violence. Despite this designation, the gang has continued its violent activities, including recent drive-by shootings in Surrey and Maple Ridge.
Authorities are reviewing video evidence and working with federal agencies to explore any potential cross-border connections. They have also released a surveillance image of a silver Toyota Corolla believed to be involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation is ongoing. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as they seek to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
