In a major boost for sugarcane farmers, the Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has announced an increase of Rs 30 per quintal in the State Advisory Price (SAP) for sugarcane purchased by sugar mills.
The decision, revealed on Tuesday, raises the price of early variety sugarcane from Rs 370 to Rs 400 per quintal, while the price of general variety sugarcane increases from Rs 360 to Rs 390 per quintal. This measure is expected to economically strengthen approximately 4.5 million farmer families in the state.
Sugar Industry and Cane Development Minister Lakshmi Narayan Chaudhary announced the cabinet’s decision, which will be effective for the 2025-26 crushing season.
