APPLE GROVE — Construction of the Nucor steel mill in Mason County is about three-quarters complete and on schedule, a company executive said Tuesday.
“We’re about 75% on the build, and from the capital spending we’re at about to that same point now,” Noah Hanners, Nucor’s executive vice president, said on the company’s quarterly call with investment analysts.
“Most of the 25% we have remaining remains in the labor category. So, if you go there today it looks like a steel mill. And I tell you, we have the world’s best steelmaking team, and you see the foundation of it there starting with that team in West Virginia.”
Tuesday’s call came the morning after Nucor released its third-quarter earnings report. Nucor reported net income of $607 million the third quarter. The company earned $603
