LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Trick-or-treating for kids with food allergies can end up having more tricks than treats.

Many fun-sized candies contain the top nine allergens or were manufactured in factories that use those allergens.

The Teal Pumpkin Project helps children with food allergies still enjoy the fun of trick-or-treating without any scares from a potential allergen.

Rachel Jeffery, an Eaton Rapids mom of three, knows this challenge well. Her three-year-old son, Artemis, has a severe peanut allergy.

“I feel like if you don’t live it every day, you don’t realize how cautious you have to be with things,” said Jeffery.

Jeffery has been making sure Artemis knows just how careful he needs to be during the holiday.
