With 100 days to go until the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina , hundreds of athletes from across the country are in the final stretch to make team USA in sports like figure skating, hockey, speed skating and more.
Overall, athletes will compete across 16 sports in the Winter Olympics , including the new sport of Ski Mountaineering.
About a dozen athletes from the Chicago area are likely to make the trip to Milan, NBC 5's Alex Maragos said.
"We will have anywhere from 10 to 15 from the Chicago area," said Maragos, who is set to travel to Milan for the Games.
The most decorated athlete from the Chicago area is hockey player Kendall Coyne Schofield, originally from suburban Palos Heights.
